Okuri-inu is a Japanese folk tale about a spirit dog that walks alongside travelers through the mountains. It protects you on your journey—but if you stumble or fall, it becomes the very thing you need protection from.
It's an absurd story, but there's something in it we love: the idea that excellence demands your full attention. No shortcuts, no falling over. Just good work done right.
That's what we bring to every project. Plus, we have our own spirit dog supervising the workshop.
The Team
We're a Brisbane design and build carpentry studio creating bespoke furniture and architectural joinery for homes and businesses.

I started out studying Mechatronics Engineering, building robots and solving technical problems. Somewhere along the way, I realized what I actually loved was the entire process: coming up with clever solutions, designing them, and then actually building them with my hands.
So I started making things, fell in love with working with timber, and got my trade qualification in carpentry. Now I get to combine my engineering brain with craft—designing and building bespoke joinery, furniture, and architectural woodwork for homes and businesses across Brisbane.
I’m drawn to modern Scandinavian and Japanese design. Clean lines, honest materials, that perfect balance between form and function. I love that every piece of timber is unique, that it was once a living thing. The grain tells a story, and small inconsistencies are what make each piece special.

Moss is a four-year-old Australian Kelpie who takes his role as workshop supervisor very seriously. His primary responsibilities include quality control (will this timber make a good stick?), waste management (eating sawdust), and morale maintenance (demanding pats from clients).
He has strong opinions on wood species—particularly fond of anything that rolls—and an uncanny ability to position himself exactly where you need to walk. His design critique mostly involves staring intently at whatever you’re working on until you second-guess yourself, which, to be fair, often leads to better outcomes, or at least a good walk.
Moss loves to come on site and is excellent with people, slightly less excellent with staying out of photos, and has never once complained about working weekends.
His credentials include: Advanced Certificate in Napping (distinction), Diploma in herding sheep, and a self-awarded PhD in finding tennis balls even when there isn’t one.
Between projects, Moss enjoys long walks, short walks, any walks really, and has been known to assist with “timber selection” at the local park.
The Work
Every project starts with a problem to solve. Maybe it's a kitchen that doesn't work for how you actually cook. Maybe it's an awkward corner that needs storage. Maybe it's a commercial space that needs to look stunning while handling serious foot traffic.
We design everything in full 3D models before we build. This means you see exactly what you're getting, we can refine details together, and there are no surprises when installation day comes. It also means we can solve complex spatial problems and integrate technical elements—hidden cable management, smart home tech, motorized features—in ways that look seamless.
Then we build it. Some pieces are crafted in my Brisbane workshop using hand tools and solid timbers (especially local and native species). Others are built on-site—custom built-ins, wardrobes, kitchens, decks—shaped to fit your exact space. Every project is custom, bespoke, and built to last.
This isn't standard carpentry work. It's for people who want something specific, something thoughtful, something that solves a real problem while looking beautiful in their space.
The Creations
We've designed and built everything from floor-to-ceiling libraries to kitchen and bathroom cabinets, commercial cafe fit-outs to custom campervan conversions with off-grid solar systems. Hand-joined Japanese-inspired decks, mid-century modern cabinetry, art storage drawers for collectors, home offices with integrated tech.
If it involves timber, joinery, and problem-solving, we've probably done it or want to.
